More Than Meets The Eye [IL+] [Angel]

Here I am in New York, New York. After being in Juvi for a few months, I moved out of my parents’ house and transferred high schools. In my little apartment, I live with my guinea pig, Bone. Now I barely survive off of the money I make off of bagging at the local grocery store. My life sucks.

Bright blue eyes shimmered through the shaded night sky as the sun sank behind the towering buildings of New York, NewYork. Yet, the day was still not over. No not for a young cat out upon the streets on this shadowy night. Unfortunately, drop after drop, the rain began pounding hard upon her shaggy head. Help me… She thought, looking up at the sky, blinking at each water droplet that plopped upon her little brown head. She closed her eyes and gave up a crying yowl before pawing her way out from between the soaked trashcans, blocking her only path to food and the civil world.

Yet, the world… oh the cruel world. Stepping out, the young cat veered to the left as a car skidded to her right. Frightened and shaking, she scrambled back into the rows of trash bins that had been serving as her home for years now. The young brown cat backed up, paw step by paw step into the dark tunnel-like box that only slightly gave her enough protection from the rain yet she couldn’t help but shiver at the cold wind following the storm. As if her life could get any worse. She was already as thin as could be and her fur was soaked with mud and rain. What a terrible life…could it get any worse?

Dayko stretched his arms as he finally made it to the dumpsters that he usually raided. He looked into the dumpster and grunted as he saw more trash than anything. Dude, why doesn’t anyone throw away anything good? he thought to himself, sighing. From the corner of his eye, he saw a slight movement next to the dumpster. “Maybe it’s a rat I can cook for dinner, heh,” he muttered to himself as he faced the box next to the dumpster. Dayko crouched down and looked inside of the box, ready to catch anything that ran out. Inside the box was too dark for him to see, he noticed, as he ran his hand through his black and green hair. The boy grabbed the edge of the box and turned it upside-down to let gravity do the work.

The cat gave out a faint yowl as she fell like rain from the sky. Her eyes were wide with terror and as she hit the hard ground with a loud thud. She gave out a shallow gasp as her gaze traveled from the bevels of the young man’s shoes all the way up to his face. She nearly fell over as a wave of mixed emotions ran through her. She was definitely surprised that he had rudely dumped her from her shelter, yet scared of what he might be planning to do. Adding to that came a few more emotions that seemed to spin around her confused little head.

The young cat’s first reaction was to run- which was purely instinct yet she had no where to escape. The boy blocked her path out while the path behind her was enclosed by a brick wall. Dang… what to do … what to do…? Her golden eyes scanned the shadowed area once again and found nothing but darkened shadows. Ugh…. No where to run… The cat quickly bared her teeth, yet her courage didn’t seem to last long for as she looked up at him once again, his size and his looks made her cower.

She backed up once again, feeling her furry backside against the cold metal trash bins, sending a sharp shiver throughout her spine. No where to run… She repeated in her head once more sending a shuddering image of the last time she had made an encounter with a human. He had smacked her to the side with a stiff broom which led her into fearing humans so. However, this one looked much different- very different with his darkened exposure and his shadowy exposition. Who and what is this guy?

The brown tabby gave up in trying to find a useful tactic at this moment and decided on one easy trick to fool a weak-hearted human: be cute. She closed her eyes and took a dee breath before giving off a weak Meow?

Dayko looked down upon the small cat, his head still held high. He sighed and grabbed the cat in his right arm. The cat looked so pitiful and hungry the softer side of Dayko took over. What am I doing? I can’t even afford to feed a cat, he thought. But still, he couldn’t leave the cat. “I’ll find a way,” he muttered to himself, walking away from the trash cans.

As Dayko walked through the pouring rain, his spiked hair quickly dropped from its high stature, covering his eyes. With the water and the remaining gel in his hair, he quickly re-spiked his hair. He turned the corner to look upon the run-down apartment building where he lived. Digging in his pocket for his apartment key, he walked up to the door of his apartment. The boy pulled the key out of his pocket and shoved it into the keyhole, attempting to unlock the door, though it barely every worked. As usual, the key did not budge. He sighed, knocked the doorknob off, with little effort, and walked in.

He gazed at his one room apartment, with a small bathroom in the corner. The carpet was a grey blue, covered in dirt. The room was poorly furnished, with only a bed and a small dresser. In the corner, there was a space that was supposed to be a kitchen which had a sink and a small cupboard. In another corner, a small cage held a guinea pig. Dayko let the cat down, stretching his arms once again. “There’s nothing much to ruin anyway, so just don’t eat Bone,” he said to the cat, pointing to the guinea pig cage. “Ah, I’m going crazy. I’m talking to a frigging cat.” He walked over to the kitchen cupboard and dug through all of the junk that he used for dishes. He pulled out a plastic open box and tossed it on the floor. “I think that’s supposed to be a litter box,” he muttered, scratching his head. “Well I guess this is home for you now…”

After a long day of school and work, Dayko was too tired to do anything else. He stripped his shirt off, revealing his strong muscles, and collapsed onto his bed. His eyes closed and his mind wandered until he was unconscious.

The cat shuddered lightly as she was carried through the rain toward a dust apartment. She had nearly froze as she was lifted into the young man’s arms and nearly the whole journey into the apartment, she had been shivering her fur off. The room was definitely dark to what she could see. The floor was dust and the place was quite messy, yet it was warm inside the area and it felt quite good upon her fur. Soon she was let down upon the mucky blue carpeting and she couldn’t help but scowl at it. The odor wasn’t to pleasing either. Yet, she ignored it as she looked up at the young man in fear. He spoke calmly which comforted her slightly, yet she was still a bit shaken up and her instinct quickly told her to exit the room through the door into freedom. But was it really freedom that she would be running out to? Out there in the world she knew she would struggle with getting food and warmth yet in here it was warm and she was finally sheltered properly from the rain.

The brown tabby gave up another curious meow before beginning to groom her fur for the water that remained in her fur was beginning to get uncomfortable. However, as the young man pointed toward a shaded cage, she noticed a small flash of movement. Hm…? What is that….? She tilted her head to once side, letting one ear droop to one side while her paw raised curiously into the air. Crouching, she crawled forward; measuring the distance she needed to leap to get to her destination. Hmm… Ready or not… here I come!! Muscles flexing, The young cat leaped, letting out a faint yelp as she fell short by a whisker. Grr… She readied herself once again for she was not ready to give up. With one last leap she quickly scaled the old box that seemed strong enough to support the small cage and barely made it. Grunting, her claws hooked upon the edge and with a bit of force she pulled herself up.

To her surprise a small, black and white guinea pig was encaged in the metal container. She raised an eyebrow and began pawing at the cage door. Hmm… Puny rodent! She hissed angrily before smacking the side of the cage with her paw, yet it wouldn’t budge. However she had managed to shake the rodent up a bit. Ugh… Why can’t I get to my midnight snack? She grumbled on, licking her lips and trying her best to fit her paw in between the bars, yet she came to no avail.

The brown she-cat grunted once again, changing her attention away from the guinea pig back toward the young man who had saved her from the streets. He seemed to have padded over to the bed at the corner of the room. It was slightly darkened from her vision and it was difficult to see him. She narrowed her eyes and quickly leaped down from the box. Unfortunately, her tail caught onto a loose wire upon the cage containing the house pet and as she jumped down, she brought the cage with her. Pain struck her from behind and she couldn’t help but let out a screech of pain as it all came crashing down upon her- cage, guinea pig and all.

Dayko woke up with a yell as the cage crashed to the floor. He rubbed his eyes to look down at the broken cage that released the guinea pig which was no running across the floor. “Bone!” he yelled running and sliding over to the rodent and scooping it up. “I told you not to eat the guinea pig,” he grunted, digging through his kitchen cupboard for something to put the rodent in.

“Alright, cat, since I can’t trust you I guess I just gotta stay up all night,” Dayko said, sighing. He found a medium sized jar that already had holes in it. He shoved the rodent into the jar and put it on the tiny kitchen counter. “I guess I gotta give you a name, huh, cat?” Flexing his muscles, he walked back over to his bed and sat down. “How ‘bout Katie?” He sighed, knowing a name like that was unlike him. “Hey, I got a good idea,” he continued, snickering. Dayko dug through his dresser and pulled out a small pin. The young man quickly grabbed the cat and stuck the pin through the top of her ear. He then attempted to stick it through the other ear.

The newly named Katie, lowered her head as the teenager looked down at her strangely whilst placing the little guinea pig back into a safe container. Grr… I think that rat would be better off in my belly… She crouched down, licking her lips as she got ready to knock the creature back down upon the ground however, she was unexpectedly grabbed by the man’s rough hand. What the…? Suddenly a sharp pain appeared upon her ear, forcing a sharp yowl to escaped from her wide-open maw. Let go of me you freak!! She thought, sending out a few more sharp mewls of terror and pain. Her claws flashed back and forth as she struggled to pull away from his grip. Sharp nails, sinking deep into his skin as well as teeth and hind claws. Let go! Let go! Let go!!

“Exchanging pain. Fair enough,” he replied, wiping the blood off his face and shaking it off of his arm and hand. Dayko glanced at the clock on top of his dresser and realized it was morning. “Hm. Breakfast…” he muttered, heading over to the cupboard to look through it again. Inside, he found a few pancakes inside of a Ziploc bag. He pulled one out and looked down at the angry cat. Dropping it to the floor in front of Katie, he pulled out the rest of the pancakes and stuffed them in his mouth. Okay I gotta get some sleep now, he thought to himself, yawning. The young man jumped back into his bed and quickly fell asleep.

Katie spat angrily as she was lowered down. Luckily, she wasn’t damaged [too much] and she was left to go on with her own business once again. Hmph. How rude. She shook her head and licked her paws, bringing them over her sore ears. Ugh… maybe I shouldn’t stay after all… Her eyes scanned the open window- a perfect escape route. The brown tabby quickly leaped up upon the bed, her eyes searching the clear skies. Her muscles bunched up, ready to leap, yet a strange scent traveled to her nose. It was something strange yet satisfying at the same time. Kat turned her head with a raised eyebrow, quickly spying the little brown pancake. Hm? Once again the man had gone back to sleep. It seemed he was very tired and needed his sleep unlike herself.

The cat leaped down from the bed, making sure she didn’t disturb the young man, suddenly feeling her stomach lurch uncomfortably. Her eyes glanced back at the open window as the mysterious smell continued tempting her through her nose. It seemed to be coming from the small round pancake that lay in front of her. She peered back up at him wondering why he had purposely dropped a perfectly whole piece of food. It seemed strange yet somehow, she knew it was meant for her.

Katie bent down, sniffing at the piece of bread for a moment longer before sinking her sharp teeth upon it as if biting into a new piece of prey. The pancake was gone in seconds and the young cat was soon full. The sun was slowly rising once again and Katie was surely tired. She gave off a soft yawn, stretching her long limbs before stalking the apartment for a place to sleep. However, she found no where comfortable enough to sleep upon. The only option would be the bed. Kat narrowed her eyes slightly, taking a deep breath. Should I really go…? Something told her to go, thus she followed her instinct and leaped forward. She smiled as she looked down upon the young man’s face, feeling a gentle purr rumbling along her throat. Katie let out a faint mew slowly crawling upon his chest. Thank you. She bowed her head lapping at his lips gently.

At that moment, a sudden shock traveled through her. It nearly froze her entire body- sending her into temporary shock. A blue glow suddenly fell over her; the small body of the cat slowly lifting into the air. Katie looked around, blue eyes wide as she wriggled back and forth. Wha…? What’s happening?!? She gave out a few helpless yelps as she began to gradually change. The fur upon her skin slowly melting away to uncover a light shade of pink whilst her tail slithered away. Adding to that, Katie’s muzzle sank back into her face as the feline features disappeared, giving her that familiar human-like look and face. Soon, a young woman replaced the brown little tabby body; the blue glow steadily fading away as she was slowly let down. With one simple drop, she fell upon the side of the bed, giving off an aspirated gasp, her head laying upon Dayko’s chest in exhaustion from the transformation.

Dayko was half awake when a blue glow came from the cat. He rolled over to see what it was, but quickly went back into a deep sleep. By the time the girl lay against him, he was already deep in a dream.

~*The Next Morning*~

The sun had risen a few hours ago. Dayko flexed his arm muscles and as he dropped his arm, his hand touched human skin. But it wasn’t his skin that he felt. The boy’s eyes snapped open to gaze, wide-eyed, upon an unclothed teenage girl on his bed. “WHOAH! WHAT THE SH-,” he stopped to jump off the bed and run to the wall opposite from his bed. “WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? WHAT’RE YOU DOING NAKED IN MY APARTMENT!?!” he yelled, grabbing an old aluminum baseball bat from his dresser. “WHOAH! JESUS CHRIST!” he continued, looking around the room to see if anything strange was there, besides the unknown girl in his bed. He held the baseball bat up defensively.

With a sigh, Dante slowly walked along the crowd street. It was the morning, and he could feel the dawn breeze. It was colder then usually, or colder then his heated house. But all signs of rain where gone, it was a bright and clear. He slowly flicked a stand of his dark brown hair out his face, his hazel eyes glanced around nervously. He was basically in a area of town, where his family never went. Where you would find beggars, and people who dug into the trash can, and poor people. He was here for a mission though, a mission to find that dude from school.

A new kid, you could tell he was poor, but he was an interesting person. Or at least seemed interesting from he random conversation they had during school. And alas he forgot his text book, and this one kid was in his class. He really need to do his homework too. It was a good thing he had his maid stalk Dayko too, he might have never figure out where he lived at if he hadn't. Dante stop and stood in front a series of one room house, that looked like it would house Dante's pure breed dog. He let out a sigh and walked to the nearest door, where he knew his friend resided.

He started to slowly knock against the wooden door, his knuckles beating against the wood. "Hey Dayko, you in there." he yelled behind the door. Dante rapidly started to tap his boots against the ground, waiting impatiently for his friend to answer the door. "If you don't answer, I will barge in." he said a second or two later, knocking on the door once more.

Light blue eyes fluttered open as the young woman laying comfortably along the side of the bed was awakened by the sudden alarm. She definitely laid unusually upon her stomach, one of her arms dangling off the edge while her legs folded from underneath her. Her dark brown hair flowed freely, covering almost all of her top half.

She looked up at the young man, eyes wide in surprise, head tilted to the side. ”Mrawr?” Katie suddenly gasped in surprise as her mew had changed and as her hands touched her face, she felt skin- not hair… Adding to that, how in the world does she have hands as a cat? But that was not it. Katie was no longer a cat but a girl- a young woman to be exact. Her eyes widened once as she looked around, confused to find her lushes brown fur replaced by silky peach skin. ”Wha…” She gave up a yelp, realizing that words other than meowls were actually forming upon her lips. Omg! I can talk!

Katie slowly got up, struggling as she fumbled to simply stand. Her hands flailed, feet rolling, mouth opened wide as she fell upon the bed once again, legs spread and chest out as if trying to prevent herself from falling upon her tail, but wait…. She had no tail! Kat nearly fainted in complete surprise. What just happened…? She opened her mouth again, her eyes looking toward the young man. ”Marw-rawr-mreowr-rawr” Came the fumbling sounds that she had been using ever since her life of a cat had started. But as she watched his shaky figure she couldn’t help but notice that he looked much smaller than he was when she looked from a cat’s point of view and he looked much less threatening than she assumed.

Katie slowly fumbled forward once again, yawning as she decided to keep stand upon her knees which was much easier than on her actual two feet. She shook her head and pushed her hair behind her with a look of bewilderment. I have hair…? It was the strangest sensation of having a special patch of fur upon her head that was much longer and heavier than normal. However as her eyes focused upon the metal bat in the young man’s hand, she suddenly recognized that familiar fighting stance. It was the same stance many people used before they swept her away with a broom or a stick. She let out a yelp, shaking her head back and forth, holding out her hand as if saying, ”Stop stop!” ”N-n-no…d-d-do-“ She struggled. Form words lips!!

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Dayko asked, witnessing her strange movements and her attempt to speak. He gripped the baseball bat harder. “Why are you here?” he asked, going into an intimidating pose.

A knock on the door made him yell again. “THE HELL DO YOU WANT?!?!” he yelled toward the door, still shaken up by this whole incident. “Shit, he’s gonna think I raped you. Go hide in the bathroom!” Dayko whispered pointing at the door leading to the tiny bathroom.

Katie backed up, giving off a faint squeak of sure fear. Her eyes focused sharply against the bat nearly shuddering at the thought of it against her new bare skin. She shook her head, moving her lips once again; however nothing came out but small mews that made absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Oh come on! She thought, slowly trying to get up onto her feet once again. Her eyes suddenly shot toward her side as there was a knock at the door. She gave off a faint gasp, falling upon her butt once again. Ouch… why does it hurt more that usual? Echoed her thoughts, which were immediately interrupted by the young man’s screaming.

Rape?? What…? She raised an eyebrow wondering what exactly did he mean by that. Why would he think that? I mean, I didn’t do anything…I guess he’s trying to say grape? Or no… no… take? Lake? Paste? She shook her head, showing her confusion. Unfortunately, he continued screaming and pointing toward the other door. Her mind quickly linked and she knew what he probably wanted her to do. Get out. Or somewhat close to that. Shuddering, Kat crawled upon hands and feet into the door. To her surprise, she was led into a small enclosed room but it was too late. The door closed behind her. How in the world am I suppose to get out of here???

There was some sort of chatting going on in there, Dayko sounded surprised, and mad, and then there was something the sounded like meows? He slowly scratched at his head, as he tried to figure out what was happening. But nothing came, and he shrugged it off. He heard more yelling, more meowing, it was just plain weird. "You math book." Dante yelled back behind the closed door. he put his hand on the door knob and started to fidget with it, trying to get the door open. It didn't want to seem to budge. with a frown he start to push on the door shoving it with his shoulder. Soon enough he got the thing open with brute force and casually walked into Dayko's house.

"What a mess." he said after examining it. It was dirty, Dante couldn't find the floor anywhere. Nothing out of the ordinary though, besides Dayko held a bat and was near the bathroom. "Did I mess something, or do you like to hold bats randomly?" he asked walking a couple steps toward Dayko. Dante was carefully not to step on any of the junk on the floor.

“Oh this?” Dayko looked around the room for an excuse. “Oh yeah. There was a rat and I was trying to catch it for dinner,” Dayko lied easily. The young delinquent was good at lying and coming up with excuses that could actually be true. “Now if you don’t mind, I’m kinda busy here so go bathe in your money or something, aristocrat,” Dayko scowled, pushing his classmate out of his apartment and slamming the door. The door almost broke into pieces as it hit the doorframe. Dayko grabbed a shirt off of the floor, opened the bathroom door and threw it in. “Put that on!” he yelled, closing the door again. Worried thoughts ran through Dayko’s head. He remembered being at Juvi and imagined going there again.

Katie gave a confused look as she heard muttering through the door. She pressed her ear against the cold wooden door, yet strangely, she couldn’t hear as well as she usually could. Ahh! What in the world’s happening? She shook her head and opening her mouth, she tried her best to make a sound. Strangely enough, her jaw was getting stronger yet nothing else was coming out but gentle mews that even she herself could not understand. Ugh, why cant I even talk?

Yet, her thoughts were interrupted as a cloth was thrown over her face. Put that on! she gave up a yelp, throwing the strong scented cloth off from her nose. She could clearly scent cologne and a sort of dirty stench as well- something she was not looking forward too. Why do I have to put this thing on? She narrowed her eyes, getting on all fours, hissing at the object for a moment or two. Yet strangely, she felt awkward with her butt in the air, much higher than her head. What the…? She gave a yowl of pure annoyance before sitting down in a more comfortable position. Yet seeing that the door was closed and her new ‘paws’ couldn’t open the door, she decided to do as the human said. Hmph, How do these humans even do this? She squirmed around, pushing her head around, trying to fit it into any hole that seemed reasonable enough to be a head hole.

However, after much fumbling and much stuggling, she finally got the shirt on the way it should fit, yet not exactly… Backwards it was and what bugged her the most was the tag that kept flickering along her nose. She gave a frustrated grunt and quickly bit the piece of cloth and gave a hissing growl. ”Mrawr-ar-wrar-rarw!!”

“What the hell?” Dayko muttered to himself as he heard strange noises coming from the other side of the door. “Are you okay?” Dayko asked, raising an eyebrow. Where the hell did this girl come from?! The boy thought about the cat and the fact that it was missing. Hell no. I’m crazy for even thinking that. But…where did this girl come from then? Dayko sighed and turned around, leaning against the door. “You okay?” he repeated.

Katie leaned up against the door, ears perking [well they would if she was still a cat]. She gave a nod, opening her mouth. ”Y-yearm” Her words failed her again as she tried to reply politely. Yet her words turned out to become a whole mess of mumbles. Kat gave another innocent look before swatting at the tag that continued to bug at her face. Kat shook her head before pawing at the door, hissing in frustration. Let me out already! She threw herself against the door in more of her frustration before sitting back with a sigh. ”MRARARARARWRARARWARA” She cried out, suddenly feel tears come to her eyes. What? What is this? She placed her hands upon her cheeks with utter confusion. The water was wet and salty to her taste. It was quite strange to say the least.
